The Ghosto Manifesto - Ghosto Malaysia

The Ghosto Manifesto

Aligning technology with human interests

The Internet is an unparalleled tool for collaboration and knowledge sharing, owing to its openness and global reach. Many of our aspirations for the advancement of humanity are within its grasp, as it provides new means for obtaining information, collaborating, and solving problems on a global scale.

However, over the past decade, the predictions made in 2008 have come to fruition. Along with its many benefits, we have also witnessed the darker side of the Internet, where its power has been harnessed to create harm, incite conflict, propagate hate, and alter the historical and present-day reality. The unchecked attention economy of social media platforms is eroding democracy, posing threats to both physical and mental well-being, and exposing children to harmful content. Therefore, it is imperative that we have a more nuanced understanding of our expectations for the Internet and take action accordingly, without further delay.

We are committed to using technology to improve the world we live in
We are committed to protecting future generations and enabling them to have a healthier relationship with technology
We are committed to creating a healthier, more inclusive and responsible digital world
We are committed to creating humane technology products to protect public welfare

Always keep in mind that the Internet is a public resource that belongs to everyone.

Principle 3

The Internet’s purpose should be to promote human flourishing and societal progress.

Principle 4

All community-based processes must be open and ask users for their input on how they should be regulated and held accountable.

Principle 5

Having businesses contribute to Internet growth has many benefits, but it’s important to balance commercial profit and public benefit.

Principle 6

Promoting responsible use of technology and pointing out the benefits that new ideas can bring to society is a good goal that deserves our best efforts.
